How to Hook Up a PS3 Directly to a Cable Modem

You can access the Internet and engage in multi-player online simulations on your PlayStation 3 with a direct connection to your cable modem. A high-speed Internet connection provides lightning-fast Web browsing and gameplay, as the PlayStation 3 is the first console in the PlayStation series that comes with a built-in network adapter for a wired Internet connection. The PlayStation 3 configures its network settings to optimize the Internet connection and allows automatic or custom network configuration in the console's setup menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN connector port on the back of the PS3 console.

    • 2

Insert the unconnected end of the cable into the cable modem's Ethernet port, located on the back of the modem.

    • 3

Power on the console by pushing the power button on the front of the machine and turn on your television.

    • 4

Switch your television to the proper video output channel to view the PS3's main menu.

    • 5

Scroll to the Settings menu and select "Network Settings" if you are unable to automatically connect to the Internet after plugging in the Ethernet cable.

    • 6

Click "X" on your machine's game controller and select "Internet Connection Settings." Click "X" and click "Wired Connection."

    • 7

Click the right arrow on the controller and select "Easy" to finish the network configuration.
