How to Hook Up an HDMI Cable Through a PS3 to a Phillips TV

The Sony PlayStation 3 connects to a television either by using a High-Definition Multimedia Interface cable or audio and video cables, which are typically red, white and yellow. The PlayStation 3 supports 720p, 1080i or 1080p video, although your Phillips television may not support all three resolutions. As long as you have a high-definition television, you should use the HDMI connection instead of the separate audio and video cables for better video quality and display.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PlayStation 3 and plug one end of the HDMI cable into your television and the other into the back of the PS3.

    • 2

Press and hold the PlayStation power button until you hear two beeps, approximately five seconds. Your PS3 should automatically detect the HDMI connection.

    • 3

Connect both the AV cables and the HDMI cable to manually set the video mode. Select "Settings," then choose "Display Settings."

    • 4

Select "HDMI" under "Video Output Settings" to change the display mode to HDMI.
