How to Connect Your Laptop to a PS3 to Stream Movies

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a DLNA compatible device, allowing it to connect with other DLNA devices to stream movies over a Media Server. If your PS3 is connected to your home network via a router, the laptop can act as a Media Server using Windows Media Player. Any videos in the Windows Media Player library will be accessible on the PS3 using the PS3's standard video player. A laptop Media Server can be established on wired or wireless network.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Settings" icon on the PS3 menu. Select "Network Settings," highlight "Media Server Connection" and select "Enable."

    • 2

Open Windows Media Player, then click the "Stream" button. Click "More Streaming Options," then click the drop-down menu next to "Show devices On" and click "All Devices." Click the drop-down menu next to "Unknown Device," click "Allow," then click the "OK" button.

    • 3

Go to the "Videos" icon on the PS3 menu. Select the name of the media server (the name of the laptop by default), then select "Video." A thumbnail list of all the videos on the Media Server will be displayed. Select the video you want to watch and press the "X" button to begin playback.
