PS3 Cannot Access Media Server

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) can connect to a media server and stream files from a computer to the PS3 via your home's router. If the PS3 cannot access the media server, the PS3 or the media server program is not properly configured. By default, the PS3 does not search for a media server automatically and most programs require you to manually select the devices that have access to the media server.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the router and reconnect it after 30 seconds.

    • 2

Verify the PS3 has the media server enabled. Scroll to the "Settings" icon and select "Network Settings." Select "Media Server Connection." Select "Enable."

    • 3

Verify that the media server program you're using is allowing access to the PS3. If you're using Windows Media Player as recommended, click the "Stream" icon and click "More Streaming Options." Click the drop-down menu next to "Unknown Device" and click "Allow."
