How to Make Self Booting PS1 Games Work on PS3

In the United States and Canada, PlayStation 3 consoles with model numbers CECHA01, CECHE01 and CECHB01 can play PlayStation 1 and 2 games. Playing older format games is generally the same as playing PlayStation 3 games, but you must take a few extra steps before launching the game. For this reason, you must ensure that your PlayStation 1 disc does not auto-start when inserted into the console. This setting is easy to adjust, and the adjustment takes only a minute.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off disc auto-start. Locate this option under the "System Settings" tab in the "Settings" menu. Select "Disc Auto-Start," then highlight "Off" and press "X" to confirm your settings.

    • 2

Create an internal memory card. Scroll to the "Game" menu on your Xross Media Bar and select "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)." Press "X" and then select "Create New Internal Memory Card." Highlight your new memory card and press "Triangle." Choose to assign a new slot. Assign the card to any available slot.

    • 3

Insert your PlayStation format game. Select the title from the "Game" menu and press "X" to launch the disc. A message will appear, asking you to choose a memory card slot. Select your newly created memory card slot and press "X." Your game will now automatically save to that slot.
