Standard Definition
Position your PlayStation 3 console near your television, close enough so that the provided RCA and S-cable attachments reach your TV inputs.
Connect the single piece at the opposite end of the RCA and S-cable to the rear of your PlayStation 3. Make sure you push this piece in all the way, as a stable connection is imperative to the video and audio quality during game play.
Connect the red and white audio RCA cables into the respective audio inputs in the rear of your television. Regardless of what year and model your set is, the audio inputs should be clearly marked. Likewise, connect the yellow video and S-cable to their intended inputs.
Turn on your television and enter the PlayStation settings menu. Click on "audio settings" and set the sound to your television's capabilities.
High Definition
Remove all of the RCA cables and attached S-cable from the rear of your television. Disconnect this cable system from the rear of your PlayStation 3, setting aside for later use.
Connect one end of the HDMI cable into the rear of your PS3. This cable allows both high definition audio and video to travel between your gaming console and the television, therefore all other cables are unnecessary for connection.
Attach the other end of the HDMI cable to the corresponding input on your television. Power on your television, then set the picture to the specific HDMI input you chose for the connection.
Power on your PlayStation 3 and enter the "audio settings" screen. Select the appropriate setup of your television's audio and click to save.
