How to Format an SDHC Card for a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) comes in various models with different hard drive sizes and card readers. If you own the 60 GB or 80 GB console model, the device comes with a built-in memory card slot capable of reading SDHC cards, among other types, allowing you to expand your PS3's memory. If your PS3 cannot read or save data to the card, you must format the card. Use the PS3's built-in Format Utility to get your SDHC card up and running on the console.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3 and insert the SDHC card into the console's memory card slot, located on the front of the device.

    • 2

      Turn on the PS3.

    • 3

Go to the "Settings" section of the console's main menu.

    • 4

      Choose "System Settings."

    • 5

      Select "Format Utility."

    • 6

Choose your SDHC card from the list of storage devices and confirm the format when prompted. The process lasts a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the SDHC card's size.
