Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine your connection. You may have DSL or cable Internet service.
Turn off and unplug your PS3 system.
Turn off your DSL or cable modem.
If you do not have a router, turn on the PS3 system. If you do have a router, turn on the router.
Chose how you will connect to your PS3 system (either wired or wireless). (Make sure you have a modem or router with wireless capabilities before you choose wireless.)
Put one end of the ethernet cable into the back of your modem. (On the modem, the connection port will be labeled "Ethernet.")
If you are not using a router, put the other end of the ethernet cord into the back of the PS3 system into the port labeled "LAN." If you are using a router, put the other end of the ethernet cord into the router connection port that is labeled "WAN" or "WLAN."
Wired router users should locate one of the remaining ports on the back of the router and place one end of another ethernet cable into one of the numbered ports. Then place the other end of that ethernet cable into the port labeled "LAN" on the PS3.
Connect the PS3 power cord.
Make sure that the modem is plugged in and has been turned on for at least two minutes.
Turn on the PS3.
After the power light changes from red to green and the system beeps, you can configure the network settings via the prompts on the screen.
