How to make a .Pkg for CFW

PKG files hold Sony PlayStation 3 application and game data, much like a DVD or Blu-ray. Unlike the disc-based programs and games, the PKG file can be installed onto the PS3's internal memory. From there, it can be played without needing to insert a disc into the machine. PKG files can be created for use on any PS3 running custom firmware.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the ".NET framework" from the Microsoft Windows website. This program is a developer environment that enables the creation of the PKG file.

    • 2

Download the "PS3 Package GUI" program from the developer's website. Double-click the "Package GUI.exe" file to open the program.

    • 3

Locate the files that you are making the PS3 PKG file from, and save them in their own folder. Click "New folder" and type in the name of the PKG file you are making. Highlight all the files, and right-click the highlighted group. Click "Copy" from the context menu.

    • 4

Right-click the new folder you made, and click "Paste" from the context menu. Single-click and hold the folder you created, which now has the necessary files inside for your PKG file, and drag it into the "Content Directory" box on the open PS3 Package GUI program.

    • 5

Click "Make PKG" to create the PKG file using the files you dragged into the program. The PKG file is located in the folder that held the files the PKG was built from.
