How to Log Into Wi-Fi With PS3

Sony introduced the PlayStation Network with the company's PlayStation 3 console, allowing gamers to compete competitively in multiplayer matches, download media and more. The console includes two options for connecting to the online service: wireless or wired. If you have a nearby wireless access point, such as your home's router, the PS3 can pick up the signal and access the Internet. Use the console's built-in wireless setup wizard to get your PS3 connected to the PlayStation Network.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3 and disconnect any ethernet cable from the console's rear.

    • 2

Turn on the PS3. The cross-menu bar opens.

    • 3

Navigate to the "Settings" area and choose "Network Settings."

    • 4

Choose "Internet Connection Settings" and choose "Yes" when prompted to open the network setup wizard.

    • 5

Choose "Easy." A prompt appears asking you to select your desired connection type.

    • 6

Choose "Wireless" and choose "Scan." The console's built-in Wi-Fi adapter searches for nearby wireless access points. A list appears after the scan.

    • 7

Choose the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect to from the PS3's results list. Take note of the network's "Security" type.

    • 8

      Select "Default."

    • 9

Choose the network's security type, as noted in Step 7. If you chose WEP or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, a password prompt appears. Enter the access point's password.

    • 10

Press "X" to save the settings and select "Test Connection" to connect the PS3 to the network.
