How to Hook Up a Linksys E1000 to a PS3

The Linksys E1000 is a wireless-N router capable of connecting to devices at up to 300 megabits per second. The router comes with an installation CD making it easy to configure it with your computer systems. Unfortunately, this installation CD will not work with the PlayStation 3, so you will be required to manually configure the network on your PlayStation 3 system. Sony has made configuring a wireless network on the PlayStation 3 fairly simple, although several steps are still required.

Instructions

    • 1

Power-up the wireless router, PlayStation 3 and television. It is important that the router is powered up prior to turning on the PS3.

    • 2

Press left on the controller until "Settings" is highlighted in the PS3 menu, then press down until you are at "Network Settings" and press the "X" button.

    • 3

Navigate to "Internet Connections," select "Enabled," then move down to "Internet Connection Settings" and press the "X" button again.

    • 4

Select "Easy" and "Wireless" on the next two screens. Highlight "Scan" and press "X" on the controller.

    • 5

Select your Linksys E1000 router on the screen by highlighting it and pressing "X." Select the "WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK" and press "X." Enter your security key using the virtual keyboard, pressing "X" for each letter or number selection. Press "Start" on the controller once you have entered the entire code to lock it in.

    • 6

Press "X" once more to save your settings. Press "X" on the next screen to test your connection to the router and the Internet.
