How to Make a Pup File on a PS3

A .PUP file is a PS3 extension used to update the PS3's firmware. Custom Firmware (CFW) is firmware you create to install onto electronic devices such as the PS3. If you are installing CFWs onto your PS3, you will need a .PUP file. With CFW, you can add new features and functions not available with PS3 official firmware. Through your computer, you can download both the CFW and .PUP file compiler for use on your PS3.
