How to Get Your Computer to Recognize a PS3 Controller

The PlayStation DualShock 3 controller allows you to play games on your PS3 via USB or Bluetooth. You can also connect the DualShock 3 controller to your PC to play video games that support controllers. However, you must first install a device driver that will allow your PC to fully recognize the DualShock 3 controller.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to MotionInJoy.com, and download the MotionInJoy DualShock 3 driver. Depending on your operating system, you must download either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of this driver.

    • 2

Double-click the downloaded ZIP file to open it. Next, double-click the file inside.

    • 3

Click "Next," and then click "Finish" to launch the MotionInJoy Gamepad Tool.

    • 4

Connect your PS3 DualShock 3 controller using the USB cable that came with it.

    • 5

Click the tab labeled "Driver Manager" on the MotionInJoy Gamepad Tool. Next, click "Load Driver," and then click "Install this Driver Software Anyway." You will see a "SUCCESS: Install Completed" after installing the driver. Your computer now recognizes your PS3 DualShock 3 controller.
