How to Troubleshoot a Mad Catz Textpad PS3

The Wireless ThumbPad is a controller accessory for the Sony PlayStation 3 developed by Mad Catz. As with the official PS3 ChatPad developed by Sony, the ThumbPad puts an entire QWERTY keyboard at your fingertips. The device communicates with the PS3 console via a USB wireless receiver and is powered by an internal re-chargeable battery. A small LED indicator on the top of the ThumbPad signals when the device is fully charged, and a red LED on the USB receiver signals when the device is properly synced with the PS3 console.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PS3 console. Ensure that the ThumbPad is properly attached to the PS3 controller by sliding the ThumbPad into the controller clamp until it locks into place.

    • 2

Connect the ThumbPad to the PS3 console, using the included USB charge cable. Plug the large end of the cable into a USB port on the front of the console and the small end of the cable into the mini-USB slot on the top of the ThumbPad. The LED indicator on the ThumbPad turns green while charging. The LED turns off once the ThumbPad is fully charged.

    • 3

Unplug the USB charge cable from both the ThumbPad and PS3 console.

    • 4

Insert the Wireless ThumbPad USB Receiver into an available USB port on the front of the PS3 console. The LED indicator on the USB Receiver starts to flash.

    • 5

Press any button on the ThumbPad to synchronize the device with the PS3 console. The LED indicators on both the ThumbPad and USB Receiver turn solid red.

    • 6

Scroll to the "New Message" option on the main PS3 XBM menu using the PS3 controller. Press the "X" button to open the Message Editor. Test each key on the ThumbPad to ensure that all of the buttons are functioning correctly. If any buttons on the controller are unresponsive, contact Mad Catz Support for further troubleshooting.
