How to Hook Up a Netgear N150 Router to PS3

Enhance your gaming experience on the PlayStation 3 through online play. The PlayStation 3 allows you to create a free account for the PlayStation Network, which you can use to play games online, chat with friends and browse the store. The PlayStation 3 connects to the Internet either wirelessly or by using the Ethernet port and an RJ-45 cable connected to your router. The Netgear N150 router connects to your modem, then provides an Internet connection to your gaming consoles and computers.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug one end of an RJ-45 cable into your modem, then plug the other end into the Internet/Wide Area Network (WAN) port on the N150 router.

    • 2

Plug another RJ-45 cable into the PlayStation 3's open Ethernet port, then plug the other end into one of the four Local Area Network (LAN) ports on the back of the NetGear N150.

    • 3

Turn on your PlayStation 3, then select "Settings" and choose "Network Settings."

    • 4

Select "Wired" if connecting your PS3 using an Ethernet cable or "Wireless" if using the built-in wireless capability.

    • 5

Select "Scan" to scan the area for available networks. Choose "None" for WLAN Security Setting unless you have previously set a password for your wireless network.

    • 6

Select "Automatic" for IP Address Setting to automatically obtain an IP address from the router. Select "Automatic" for the DNS server and "Do Not Set" for DHCP.

    • 7

Click "Enable" for "UPnP" to complete Internet setup.
