How to Hook Up Multiple USBs to a PS3

The USB ports on the front of each Sony PlayStation 3 console allow users to plug in controllers, keyboards, microphones and other USB devices. Early models of the PS3 supplied four ports, but more current models feature only two. This raises issues for players who wish to hook up multiple devices. The easiest way to solve the problem is to add a USB 2.0 powered hub to your console's setup.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a powered USB 2.0 hub. USB hubs need power in order to sync your devices with your console, so ensure your hub is powered. Hubs can draw power from an external source, such as a power cord, or they can be self-powered. Check the item specs for power information. Choosing a 2.0 hub ensures that your devices work properly and the data travels at optimum speed. Using a low-powered hub with a camera, for example, can result in low-quality images.

Plug the hub into one of the ports on the front of your console. Most hubs feature four ports, so adding a four-port hub to a two-port console will increase your total number of available ports to five.

Plug your devices into the hub ports to sync them with your console. Complete any setup processes through the appropriate menus in the "Settings" tab.
