How to Hook Up a PS3 to a Digital Monitor

The PlayStation 3, or PS3, is configured to connect to your television or monitor using a HDMI, S-Video or AV cable, depending on the ports found on the back of your viewing device. If you have digital monitors, you must use an HDMI-to-DVI cable in order to successfully connect the game console to your computer monitor. The HDMI-to-DVI cable is sold separately from the game console, and is available at your local electronics store.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the HDMI end of the HDMI-to-DVI cable into the HDMI port on the back of your PS3.

    • 2

Line up the metal prongs on the DVI end of the HDMI-to-DVI cable with the digital monitor, and gently push the cable into the DVI port.

    • 3

Turn the screws on back of the DVI cable to the right to tighten the screws into the monitor cable.

    • 4

Insert the audio optical cable into the optical port on the back of the PS3, and insert the other end of the cable into your speaker system. An optical cable or digital audio cable must be used to hear audio while playing games on the PS3, as the HDMI-to-DVI cable is only for video input.

    • 5

Connect the PS3's power cable into an electrical outlet and the power port on the back of the game console to establish a powered connection to the device.
