How to Check the Battery on a DualShock

The DualShock 3 wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 is powered by a rechargeable battery. The controller does not have a battery indicator on the unit to show the remaining battery life, so you may find out during the middle of a game that the battery has no more power. The PS3's menu system has a method for checking the amount of charge left in your DualShock 3 battery.

Instructions

  Press the "PS" button on the DualShock 3 controller to turn on the PlayStation 3 and the controller. Wait until the menu screen appears.

  Push and hold the "PS" button until the Power screen appears. The Power screen is used to turn off the PlayStation 3 or the controller.

  Locate the battery charge indicator at the bottom-left corner of the screen. The battery indicator is a battery-shaped icon with zero to three bars in it. Zero bars means the battery is drained, and the controller soon will stop working. Three bars means the battery is full or nearly full. Two bars means the battery still has a good amount of charge, and one means you need to charge the controller soon.
