How to Install an OFW on PlayStation 3 From a USB

Official firmware updates for the PlayStation 3, or PS3, console are downloaded and installed over wired or wireless Internet, but gamers who don't have their consoles networked will need to use physical media for updates to the latest version. Some game titles have system software updates on-disc, but to ensure the most recent patch is applied, download the update patch directly from the PlayStation website and install it using an external USB drive, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

Things You'll Need

  • SIXAXIS or DualShock3 USB controller cable
  • External USB drive with at least 110 megabytes of free space
