How to Get PS3 Game Saves Working on a Different Console

Backing up game saves is a process every PlayStation 3 owner should get into the habit of performing. By keeping backups of game data, you ensure that you never have to start from square one on a game after a hard drive or console failure. Transferring your game save information to an external source also allows you to transfer your information to a different console. This enables you to share data or easily play your game on a friend's PlayStation 3.

Instructions

    • 1

Save your game save data to a USB storage device or memory card. Insert the device into a USB or memory card port on the face of your PlayStation 3.

    • 2

Open the "Game" options menu on the Xross Media Bar and select "Saved Data Utility (PS3)." Select the game save you wish to back up and hit "Triangle." Choose "Copy," then choose your storage unit from the save destination options. Wait a moment for the game data to copy.

    • 3

Insert your memory card or USB device into the new console. Reopen the "Saved Data Utility (PS3)" folder, located in the "Game" menu.

    • 4

Select your memory card from the displayed list of available drives and press "X" to open it. Find your game save data, press "Triangle" then "Copy" to move the data to the console's hard drive.

    • 5

Insert the game disc and play the game as usual. Your game save will automatically load and you can resume playing the game where you left off.
