How to Install Saves on PS3

Each time you reach a milestone in your game or manually save your progress, you create a save file on your PlayStation 3 hard drive. The backup utility that is built into the PS3's software allows you to save your game data to an external storage unit. This allows you to reinstall your data in case of a crashed hard drive, or even share your game saves with fellow PlayStation 3 owners. After the quick installation process, you can pick up your game right where you left off.

Instructions

    • 1

Back up your game saves to an external storage unit such as an SD card, memory stick, or other USB storage device. Turn the console on and insert the memory card or flash drive into the appropriate port on the front of the console.

    • 2

Navigate to the "Game" menu on the PlayStation 3 user interface. Scroll to the "Saved Data Utility (PS3)" option and press "X."

    • 3

Highlight your desired game save and press "Triangle," to access an options menu. Select "Copy."

    • 4

Select your storage device from the list of save destination options and wait for the data to copy. Press "Circle" to exit the save menu.

    • 5

Reinstall saves on new consoles by inserting your storage device and returning to the "Saved Data Utility (PS3)" menu. Scroll to the top of the list of options to find your device and press "X." Locate your game save, highlight it and press "Triangle." Select "Copy" to install the game save data on your new PlayStation 3 hard drive.
