How to Troubleshoot DNS on a PS3

With the rising popularity of online gaming, knowing how to troubleshoot Internet issues on your PS3 can help get you back in the game before it is too late. Domain name systems, or DNS, are systems responsible for translating the numerical names of websites and servers into their more common word-based equivalents. DNS errors can be caused by many things, but are usually fairly simple to troubleshoot from the user end.

Instructions

  1. Reset your Modem

    • 1

Unplug your modem from the wall by disconnecting the power from the modem itself.

    • 2

Wait about five minutes to allow any remaining power to cycle out of your modem.

    • 3

Reconnect the power to your modem and wait for all of the lights on the modem to turn solid green.

    • 4

Call your Internet provider for further troubleshooting if the modem appears to not be working correctly.

    Update your PS3

    • 5

Download the latest firmware upgrade by visiting the PS3 support website and selecting "Firmware Update" from the menu.

    • 6

Allow for the firmware to download and install before restarting your system.

    • 7

Reconnect to your network from the "Settings" and "Network Settings" menus.
