How to Get Out of Factory Service Mode for a PS3 Slim

The PlayStation 3 has a Factory Service Mode designed to run when the machine is in need of repairs. This mode is also sometimes used when attempting to load third-party software onto the machine. Unfortunately, once you have entered Factory Service Mode on the PS3 or PS3 Slim, it can be difficult to figure out how to exit this mode and return your machine to normal operation. With a USB flash drive and the proper steps, you can get your PS3 Slim working normally again.

Plug the USB flash drive into an empty USB port on your computer. Back up any important files on the drive, as it will be erased.

Click the "Start" button, and choose "Control Panel," and then "System and Maintenance." Click "Administrative Tools," then double-click "Computer Management." Click "Storage" in the left pane of the window and click "Disk Management." You will see a list of the drives connected to your computer.

    • 3

Right-click the heading for your flash drive and click "Format." Click the box next to "File System" and choose "FAT32." Check the box next to "Perform a quick format" and click "OK." Click "OK" to confirm that you wish to format the drive.

Visit mediafire.com (see Resources). Click the "Click here to start download from Mediafire" link to begin downloading the Lv2diag.self file. Save the file to the flash drive.

Remove the flash drive from the computer. Turn off the PS3 Slim if it is on. Plug the flash drive into the USB port on the front of the PS3 Slim that is closest to the disc drive.

Turn on the PS3 Slim. The PS3 will turn on and then turn back off after about 10 seconds. You can then remove the flash drive and turn the machine back on; it will no longer be in Factory Service Mode.
