How to Assign a PS3 Controller to a Second Machine

Every PlayStation 3 has a unique signature allowing it to sync with SIXAXIS PlayStation 3 controllers. When one of these Bluetooth controllers is synced with one PS3, that controller can't be used with a second machine unless you sync it with that console. When you connect a controller with a new PS3, it will stop working with the original system unless you perform the sync action again with the original PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the controller. Hold down the "PS" button until a menu pops up on the first PS3. Select the "Turn Controller Off" option.

    • 2

Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller. Connect the larger end of the cable to an open USB port on the second PS3.

    • 3

Turn on the second PS3. Once the system finishes loading, press the "PS" button on the controller. This will assign the controller to this PS3.
