How to Hook Up a PS3 to a Standard Definition TV

Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console comes with several video output options. For instance, you can connect the PS3 to your high-definition TV using numerous cables, such as HDMI or component cables. Those with standard TV sets, however, only have one option. Each PS3 comes with an AV cable, used for connecting the high-powered console to a standard TV. Get your PS3 up and running by properly setting it up to work with your standard TV set.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your standard TV and PS3. Turn off the console's main power switch on the PS3's rear.

    • 2

Connect the output end of the supplied AV cable into your PS3's rear "AV Multi Out" port.

    • 3

Connect the other end of the AV cable into the red, white and yellow AV inputs on the TV. Be sure to match the cable's red, white and yellow colors to their respective connectors. Refer to the TV's manual if you cannot find the AV inputs.

    • 4

Turn on the TV and change the input to "AV." See the TV's manual for help if necessary. Press the "Input" button on your TV's remote until "AV" appears on the screen.

    • 5

Turn on the PS3. The console's video output settings automatically change.
