How to Charge a PS3 Controller in a Wall Outlet

The wireless PlayStation 3 controllers offer several hours of wireless game play but must be occasionally recharged. The controllers charge internal batteries using a mini-USB connection at the top that is connected to either the PlayStation 3 console or a PC. There are also some dedicated wall chargers available that allow you to charge your PlayStation 3 controller from a standard power outlet.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the USB wall charger to a power outlet. CNET notes that only about half of all wall chargers will work with the PlayStation 3 controllers unless they are specifically designed for them.

    • 2

Connect the standard portion of the mini-USB to standard cable into the wall charger if necessary. Sony's official controller wall charger requires the use of this cable.

    • 3

Plug the mini-USB end of the cable into the mini-USB port on the top of the controller. The controller should begin charging.
