How to Hook Up a PS3 Without a Digital TV

The nationwide transition to digital TV in June 2009 did not affect the capability of video game consoles to work on analog TV sets. Therefore the Sony PS3, PlayStation 3, does not have to be hooked up to a digital TV in order to work. While the PS3 can be hooked up to a digital TV set, the console also still works with older model analog TV sets. The process of connecting a PS3 to an analog TV set is straightforward. Nothing has changed.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the single plug end of the AV cable, which came with the PS3, into the "AV Multi Out" connector on the back of the PS3 console.

    • 2

Insert the white AV plug, located on the other end of the AV cable, into the white "Audio L" jack on the TV. Insert the red AV plug into the TV's red "Audio R" jack. Insert the yellow AV plug into the TV's yellow "Video" jack.

    • 3

Connect the female end of the power cord, which came with the PS3, into the AC power jack on the back of the console. Plug the other end of this cable into a nearby electrical outlet.

    • 4

Turn on the PS3 console by pressing the power button located on the top right-side of the front panel. Turn on the TV.

    • 5

Change the TV's video input channel to AV by continuously pressing the "Input" or "Source" button on your TV's remote control until you arrive at the proper channel. You know you have the right channel when you see the PS3 start screen.
