How to Install Game Saves Through PS3 XMB

The PlayStation 3 has a built-in operating system and user interface called the XMB. The Cross Media Bar allows you to create and switch user accounts, download and install additional content, and administrate saved data on user accounts. Using the XMB, you can copy saved games from another console to your PlayStation, and install them so that they can be read by your games. This is ideal if you want to copy saved data over to a new console, in the event of a fault condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the memory stick to the PlayStation 3 console you want to move the save data from. Navigate to the "Game" menu column, and scroll up to locate the "Saved Game Data Utility."

    • 2

Locate the saved game you want to transfer. Some games create more than one file for the saved data. For instance, your game progress, custom character and option settings may all be stored in three different files. Scroll through the whole list, until you've located all the relevant files for your chosen game.

Press the triangle button on each of the save files, and select "Copy" from the menu. A sub-menu will open containing some additional options. Select the memory stick from the sub-menu as the chosen destination for the file. Once the copy operation is complete, remove the stick, and connect it to the new PlayStation.

Power on the new PlayStation, and insert the memory stick. Wait for a few seconds to allow the stick to register on the PlayStation, then select the new drive icon from the XMB. Highlight the saved game file, and press triangle to copy the data. It should paste directly into the existing Saved Game directory with all your other saved games.
