Find a Sony e-recycling location. Go to Sony's e-recycling drop-off center locator Web page to find a location near your area. Enter your location information into the designated fields and click "Find a Service Center."
Take your PS3 game console to an authorized Sony e-recycling drop-off center, which lets consumers recycle any brand of Sony electronics for free.
Contact your city's recycling center and ask if it accepts electronics. Some electronics pose a threat to the environment, as they can release toxic chemicals into landfills or drinking water sources. It's vital to follow all recycling guidelines to dispose of these items appropriately. Note that some agencies recycle electronics for free, while others might charge a small fee.
Sell or recycle your electronics online. Try websites such as Gazelle or EcoSquid that offer monetary rewards or gift cards for recycling or selling used cell phones, game consoles and other electronics.
Enter "PlayStation 3" or "PS3" into either site's search engine to receive a quote of your console's value. If the site determines that you cannot sell your item, you can still recycle it.
Donate your PS3, if it's in good working condition, to a local charity, school, childcare center or after-school program. Many organizations that serve children welcome any type of game consoles, toys or book donations.
