How to Hook Up After-Market Remotes to PlayStation 3

The Sony PlayStation 3 official remotes have integrated Bluetooth technology to connect to the system. Bluetooth also allows you to turn the PS3 on remotely. An alternative to the official Sony controller for the PlayStation 3 is to purchase an after market controller. Most aftermarket remotes are either corded or support wireless, not Bluetooth, technology. You must complete a different process to connect an after market remote to the system than if you were connecting the official Sony controller.

     Connect the USB dongle included with your wireless remote to the PlayStation 3 in one of the available USB ports. Your system either has two or four ports depending on the model.

     Plug one end of the USB cord into the dongle and the other end into your PS3 controller. Allow it to charge for approximately 12 hours for full battery life.

     Unplug the USB cable and turn your PlayStation 3 on to use your after market remote.
