How to Hook Up a PS3 Guitar

The Sony PlayStation 3 offers a variety of game peripherals, including guitars. These guitars belong to the "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" franchises. Although these are competing brands, the "Guitar Hero" guitar works with "Rock Band." Unfortunately, the reverse is not true, as "Rock Band" guitars do not work with "Guitar Hero." This is mainly due to a design difference. Regardless of which brand you have, however, the setup process is virtually the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the dongle into the PlayStation 3's USB port. A dongle is a small accessory included with the guitar packaging that transmits wireless signals between the guitar and your console.

    • 2

      Turn on your PS3.

    • 3

Locate the small button on the dongle. The "Guitar Hero" dongle has a black button just below the game's logo. The "Rock Band" dongle button is white and also located below the logo.

    • 4

Locate the "PS" button in the center of your guitar.

    • 5

Press the button on the dongle first to begin synchronizing your "Guitar Hero" controller. Press the "PS" button first if you are synchronizing a "Rock Band" guitar. Lights will begin to flash on the dongle or guitar.

    • 6

Press the "PS" button on your "Guitar Hero" guitar or the dongle button for your "Rock Band" instrument.

    • 7

Confirm the synchronization. Once the setup is complete, you will see a solid light on the dongle and single light on the guitar controller.
