How to Check PS3 Region Code

The PS3, or PlayStation 3, is a seventh generation home video game console offered by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is equipped with a Blu-ray disc player. Blu-ray discs, like traditional DVDs, have region codes. These codes allow PS3 Blue-ray players sold in a specific region to play only discs for that region.

Instructions

    • 1

View your PlayStation 3 manual for your region code. The region code for DVDs consist of a number, while Blu-rays use a letter. For example, the Blu-ray letter "A" designates consoles approved for distribution in North, Central and South America. DVDs with a region code of "1" are used by citizens in the United States, Canada, Bermuda and U.S. territories.

    • 2

Verify the region code on the back of the PlayStation 3 console. If the region code on the manual conflicts with the region code on the console, than the code on the console takes precedence.

    • 3

Play a DVD purchased in the region you are in. DVDs purchased online may be shipped from a different region and only work in the region of origin. If the picture quality and sound are ideal, the region of the player and DVD match. Repeat this process with a Blu-ray disc. Grainy or blurred images may indicate that either the PlayStation 3 or the disc is from another region.
