How to Make a Console Recognize a PS3 Controller

The DualShock 3 and Sixaxis are the two default controllers for the PlayStation 3. For a controller to be recognized, it must first be paired to the PS3. Pairing a controller allows you to use it wirelessly. You can pair up to seven controllers (which don't have to be of the same type) to a PS3 simultaneously. After pairing a controller, it can stay connected to the USB cable to continue charging and disconnect at any time.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the PS3 on. Connect the small, rectangular side of the supplied USB cable to the mini-USB port on the top of the PS3 controller. Connect the other end to the port on the console.

    • 2

Press the "PS" button on the center of the controller.

    • 3

Wait for the lights on the shoulder of the controller to stop blinking. When the lights stop blinking, the controller has been paired and can be disconnected from the USB cable.
