How to Dust a PS3

Damage to a PlayStation 3 video game console can be avoided by regularly cleaning the device and removing any dust that may accumulate on and within the device. The exterior of the console is made up of high-gloss plastic that works well with microfiber cleaning cloths to remove dirt and dust. The PlayStation 3 also features a self-cleaning mode that removes dust buildup from the console's interior, which eliminates the need to open up the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Completely turn off the PlayStation 3. Unplug the power and video connections located on the back of the console.

    • 2

Place a small tarp on a flat surface. Smooth out the edges of the tarp to remove any wrinkles. Place the PlayStation 3 console on the tarp.

    • 3

Grab the microfiber cloth and apply it to the surface of the PlayStation 3. Apply a moderate amount of pressure onto the cloth to trap the dust in the cloth's fiber. Work the dust from the top of the device down to the bottom, and push the excess dust off the device and onto the tarp.

    • 4

Slowly insert the small straw portion of the compressed air container into the PlayStation 3 disc drive slot, and spray the compressed air into the disc drive. Change the angle of the can every five seconds to clear as much dust as possible.

    • 5

Enter the "Self Cleaning" mode. Reconnect the PlayStation 3 console components that were removed in Step 1. Press the power button while simultaneously holding the eject button. After about five seconds the console will enter self-cleaning mode. All the system fans will activate at the same time and remove any dust from the console's interior. After about 10 seconds the console will return to standby mode.
