How to Make a Horse Faster in Red Dead Redemption

Few things are more satisfying in "Red Dead Redemption," than procuring a horse, training it and riding it into the sunset. The only problem arises when said horse is too slow for the gamer with a need for speed. Fortunately, there are numerous ways to put a charge in a plodding filly, some temporary, some more permanent.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed your horse apples. Available at the general stores, the apples increase the horse's stamina. A tired horse is a slower horse.

    • 2

Feed your horse pills. Also available at the general stores, the horse pills heal your horse after gunfights and other excursions. An injured horse is a slower horse.

    • 3

Tap "X" on the controller if you are playing on a PlayStation 3, or "A" if you are playing on an Xbox. The horse will gallop but be careful not to overdo it or you will wear him out. Feed him apples if he gets tired.

    • 4

Procure a faster breed of horse. Not all horses are equal in Red Dead Redemption, and some types are significantly speedier than others. The general rule is, the single-colored horses are faster than the multi-colored horses (though the multi-colored horses are often less prone to injury.) If traveling in Mexico, seek out the white horses (called Hungarians); if in New Austin look for golden horses (Kentucky Saddlers); if in the Great Plains hunt yourself down one of the black horses (American Standardbreds).
