How to Hook Up Surround Sound on the PS3 to a Yahama HTR6130

The Yamaha HTR6130 is a home theater receiver positioned at the value end of the company's selection. High definition multimedia interface (HDMI) enabled, the HTR6130 is ideal for the PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 3's support for high definition audio and video means that HDMI connectivity is near-mandatory. The combination of the Yamaha HTR6130 and the Sony PlayStation 3 is therefore a compatible match, maximizing audio and passing HD video to a compatible display.

Instructions

Find the HDMI port on the back of the PlayStation 3's back panel. Locate the corresponding jack on the rear of the HTR6130's panel. The receiver's HDMI ports are labeled "DVD" or "DTV/CBL." Either is compatible.

Note the orientation of the HDMI cable's connector. Slide the flat, longer side facing up into the PS3's jack.

Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HTR6130. Note that the HDMI cable's orientation is reversed on the receiver vs. the console.

Plug a second HDMI cable into the HTR6130's HDMI "OUT" jack. Plug the other end of this cable into a free HDMI jack on the television.
