Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn off your PS3 console and unplug all cables from the rear of the unit as well as all controllers and USB devices from the ports on the front of the unit.
Locate the rubber pad on the top-left side of the console. This pad covers a screw. Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop off the pad.
Remove the screw and set it aside.
Slide the top cover of the PS3 slightly to the left and then lift it up and remove it. A panel will be revealed underneath.
Remove the seven screws on the panel and then remove the panel to expose the insides of the PS, including the disc drive.
Remove the screws on the corners of the disc drive. Lift it up and unplug the ribbon cable from the back of it. Set the disc drive aside.
Lift the top of the disc drive up to expose the square laser assembly inside. If the laser assembly isn't functioning properly it could be out of place in its compartment.
Remove the three screws holding the laser assembly in place and adjust the assembly so that it fits flush in its compartment.
Replace the assembly screws.
Replace the top of the drive casing, the ribbon cable, the screws, the top panel and its screws and the top of the PS3 and side screw.
