How to Hook Up a PS3 to a CPU

When you hook up your PS3 to a CPU, or computer, you will be able to view the game on the display. To do this you will require a video card and a TV tuner card to be installed inside of the computer. If you have already installed a video card you will only need the TV tuner. The correct cables are needed to make the connection between the PS3 and CPU.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with video card
  • TV tuner card
  • HDMI cable
  • S-video cable
  • Minijack to RCA cable
  • RCA audio cable

Instructions

  1. Connect the Video

    • 1

      Press the "Power" button to turn off the power to the computer. Open the case and install the TV tuner card into the motherboard. See your computer manual or the documentation that comes with the TV tuner for more specifics on installation. Close the computer case.

      Plug one end of the S-video cable into the "S-video" port on the back of the PS3. Plug the other end of the cable into the "S-video" port on the TV tuner.

      Plug one end of the HDMI cable into an HDMI port on your video card. Plug the other end of the cable into a HDMI port on back of your computer monitor.

      Press the "Power" button to turn on the computer.

      Install the software for the TV tuner card and reboot the computer, if needed.

      Double-click the icon for the TV tuner. Press the "Power" button on the PS3 to view the image from the game console on the screen.

    Connect the Audio

      Connect one end of the RCA audio cable to the audio ports on the back of the PS3.

      Connect the other end of the cable to the "RCA" end of the Minijack to RCA cable.

      Plug the minijack end of the cable into the "Audio In" jack on your computer's sound card or on-board audio controller.
