How to Remove Acid CFW From a PlayStation 3

Acid custom firmware (CFW) is Sony PlayStation 3 firmware that enables the PS3 to use the PlayStation Network. Since its initial release, Sony has released new firmware that rendered the CFW useless. You need to rid the PS3 of acid CFW to get back into the PlayStation Network to play online games and download PlayStation Network games.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the "Settings" option on the PS3 menu. A list of secondary options comes up on the PS3 menu.

    • 2

Select "System Update" and "Update via Internet" for the PS3 to connect to the PlayStation Network and find the most recent update.

    • 3

Press the "X" button to download the latest update from the PlayStation Network. Select the "Install" option and "Accept" to agree to the terms and risks of installing the Sony PS3 update.

    • 4

Press the center button on the PS3 controller after the PS3 finishes installing the latest PS3 update.

    • 5

Select "System Settings" in the "Settings" menu of the PS3 to verify that the PS3 is no longer using acid CFW. This information is next to "Current Firmware."
