How to Check NAT Settings in PlayStation Network (PSN)

When you have multiple devices connecting to the internet through a home network, it is common for the network to use Network Address Translation, or NAT, to simplify connection settings. Each device, like your computer and PS3, has a unique identifier known as an IP address. The NAT uses a single IP address for a network so that it doesn't need individual IP addresses for all the devices on that network. You can run a network test in the PS3 menu to see what type of NAT settings you currently have when connecting to the PlayStation network.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PlayStation 3 and navigate to the "Settings" option on the main menu.

    • 2

Scroll down and select "Network Settings" by clicking "X" on the gamepad.

    • 3

Highlight "Internet Connection Settings" and press "X" to run the test.

    • 4

Wait for the test to complete and check to the right of the "NAT Type." Type 1 means that the connection on the PS3 is going directly to the internet, type 2 means that the PS3 is connection through a router and Type 3 means that there is a problem with the connection.
