How to Deactivate a PS3 If It's Broken

The PlayStation Network allows you to activate up to five PS3 systems on your user account. This feature allows you to share game content from one console to another, or encourage friends to check out new titles. Once you hit the five-system cap, you will not be able to activate a new system under your account unless one of the old ones is deactivated. This is relatively simple if the system works, but if it does not you will need to contact Sony support.

Instructions

    • 1

Call Sony customer support at 800-345-SONY (7669).

    • 2

Press 3 to select "Network Questions."

    • 3

      Press 1 to select "PS3."

    • 4

Press 2 for "PlayStation Network Account."

    • 5

Press 4 for "PlayStation Network Account Deactivation and Reactivation."

    • 6

Press 0 to speak with a PlayStation support representative. You will need your broken system handy to provide the serial number on the case.

    • 7

Explain that your system no longer works and you are unable to deactivate your account. The phone representative can help you with getting the account cleared from the system.
