How to Disassemble a PS3 60

To disassemble a PlayStation 3 - 60 GB or PS3 console for repair or scrap parts, you learn about the many components and screws that comprise the console. Before attempting to disassemble the console, contact Sony to make sure the repairs aren't covered under your warranty. Disassembling the PS3 voids the warranty.

Instructions

  1. Front Casing

    • 1

      Press "Eject" to remove any disc from the PS3 console. Then power it off and unplug the power cord from the console.

      Pull off the black, case foot on the side of the console. Pull off the warranty sticker, then unscrew the single screw underneath the sticker with a Philips screwdriver.

      Slide the face of the console down and then up to remove it. Unscrew all seven Philips screws underneath the faceplate.

      Push in the clip and lift off the plate to remove it. Now you have access to the DVD drive and other internal parts.

    Hard Drive

    • 5

      Remove the four screws from the Bluetooth board. Disconnect the ribbon cable with your hands and remove.

      Unscrew the seven screws holding down the DVD drive. Disconnect the power cable from the DVD drive, and press the tab to disconnect the ribbon cable connecting it to the motherboard. Then remove the DVD drive.

      Remove the four screws and ribbon cable from the silver plate underneath the DVD to take it apart.

    Remove the Motherboard

      Go back to the console, and pull out the HDD tab on the side of the console. Keep pulling it out to remove the hard drive, motherboard and cooling system.

      Pull back the five plastic clips on the hard drive enclosure. Two are on one side, and three are on the other side of the drive. Then pull off the back cover from the enclosure.

      Remove three screws from the underneath the back cover of the hard drive enclosure.

      Disconnect the ribbon cable that is holding the fan to the motherboard with your hand. Then pull off the fan assembly.

      Remove the four screws and two heatsink brackets from the motherboard. Then pull off the bottom motherboard shield.

    • 13

      Pull off the heatsink assembly from the top of the motherboard. Make sure not to touch the copper strips on the assembly.

      Push in the tab and pull out the red and black cables connecting the battery to the motherboard.

    • 15

      Remove the screw from the side of the drive, then pull the drive out to the left side of the enclosure to remove it.

    • 16

      Remove two additional screws from the top motherboard shield. Then remove the shield from the top of the motherboard.
