How to Unbrick Your PS3

PlayStation 3, PS3, is a video game system manufactured by Sony that features not only normal game play, but online gaming services as well. It is possible for the PS3 system to become "bricked" at some point; this just means it does not have all of the necessary files to boot up and play properly. Often, this will happen when firmware updates are not completely installed. PS3 owners can "unbrick" their game console themselves to make it playable again.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the PS3 system on and wait until the main menu appears.

    • 2

Remove any games from the console and put them safely away.

    • 3

Click on "Settings" and "Open Settings."

    • 4

Select "Restore PS3 System" from the folder and read the message that appears. It warns users that all firmware will be reinstalled and all saved data will be deleted.

    • 5

Click on "Yes" if you agree to reinstall the firmware and lose all saved data from the hard drive. Wait for the PS3 system to go through the reinstallation process and reboot.

    • 6

Create your profile and choose the settings you previously had on the system. Your PS3 console is ready to play again.
