How to Get an Overheated PS3 Working

The PlayStation 3 video game console has had very few mass hardware related problems since it first hit the market in 2006. However, if the system is placed in an enclosed area with poor ventilation, the PlayStation 3 can overheat and require maintenance. The PlayStation has a light in the front of the machine to indicate that the power is on, but this light also alerts the owner if the machine has overheated. If the light is blinking green and red, your PlayStation 3 has overheated.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PlayStation 3 by pressing the power button on the right side of the system.

    • 2

Unplug the power cord and HDMI cables from the PlayStation 3. Even when the PS3 is off, the system is still using energy through the power cord.

    • 3

Place the PlayStation 3 in a cool and dry area. The system will need time to cool down if it is overheated. Wait at least 24 hours before removing the system from this area.

    • 4

Plug the system back in and test to see if it is working. If the system status light is still blinking red and green, you will need to either try the process again, or send the PlayStation 3 back to the manufacturer to be repaired.
