How to Flash a PS3 to OFW From CFW

Custom firmware brings the Sony PS3 many amazing new applications. But one large detractor when installing custom firmware is you cannot sign into the PlayStation online network. The only way around this is to reinstall official Sony firmware, overwriting the custom firmware. Installing or "flashing" official firmware on a PS3 system brings the console back to its factory settings and gives you back the PlayStation Network.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the "Settings" option on the PS3 menu, after the PS3 turns on.

    • 2

Select the "System Update" option on the "Settings" subheading. You are asked if you want to update through the Internet or through an external drive. Select "Internet," because it is an automated process. Select the external storage option if your PS3 is not connected to the Internet.

Select the update the PS3 finds using its Internet connection. The PS3 then downloads the update. Press the "X" button on the PS3 controller, to install the official firmware update over the custom firmware -- overwriting it.

Select the "System Settings" heading from the PS3 menu after the update completes, and select "System Information" to view the currently installed firmware. Make sure it reads "official firmware." The custom firmware now is gone from the PS3.
