How Do I Fix a PS3 if the Sound Is Humming?

The Sony PlayStation 3 is capable of outputting both stereo and 5.1 surround sound audio. If you are experiencing sound that is humming from the console, this likely indicates a problem with the connection or settings of the PS3 system. You can fix this issue by reviewing the setup of the console and any other devices that are also connected to your TV.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect any coaxial cables that are connected to your TV. Coaxial cables can cause interference with the audio signals coming from the PS3.

    • 2

Plug the PS3's power cord into a different power outlet. The PS3 must be connected to a polarized, three-pronged power outlet that is correctly wired and grounded. If the outlet is not properly grounded, electrical interference can cause the audio to hum.

    • 3

Check that the TV is tuned to the input channel that corresponds with your PS3. If you also have an audio receiver, ensure that the receiver is tuned to the channel that the PS3 is using.

    • 4

Connect the audio cable from the PS3 to a different port on your TV. If possible, try connecting to a different TV to see if your TV is the problem.

    • 5

Connect your PS3 to your TV using a different AV cable.

    • 6

Reset the PS3's audio settings by holding down the power button on the front of the console for five seconds until the system beeps twice. You can then reconfigure the audio settings in the "Audio Settings" section of the "Settings" tab in the PS3's Xross Media Bar.
