How to Get an OS on the PS3 Slim

The PlayStation 3 video game console has many unique features, but one of the best is the ability to surf the web. Users can do this because the PS3 is designed to have an operating system (OS) installed on its hard drive. Installing an operating system is fairly simple and can be done in under an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the software for the operating system you want to install on your PS3 to your computer. Open up the hard drive of the computer and insert a blank CD. Open up your CD burning software and burn the OS software to the blank disc. Remove the disc once it is finished.

    • 2

Take the USB keyboard and mouse and plug them into the USB port plugins on the PlayStation console. PlayStation makes its own keyboard and mouse, or you can buy a different brand that is built for use with the PS3.

    • 3

Turn on the PlayStation 3. Open the PS3 disc drive and place the burned CD containing the OS software into the disc tray. Close the disc drive.

    • 4

Highlight the "System Settings" option and click on it. Highlight the "Install Other OS" option and select it. Your PS3 will automatically start to install the OS. This will take close to an hour. Your PS3 will restart when it is finished.
