How to Download a Game Onto Your PS3 Hard Drive

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a home media console with a large hard drive designed to save large games on its system. This can include PSN-exclusive games, such as "Dead Nation" and "Magic: The Gathering," or games otherwise sold on Blu-ray, such as "Infamous" and "Borderlands." Regardless of its size, downloading a video game to your PlayStation 3's hard drive involves the same process, which requires a purchase from the PlayStation Store.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "PlayStation Store" on the PS3's main menu.

    • 2

Sign in to your PlayStation Network account if you're not already signed in. If you don't have an account, you'll be prompted to create one when trying to enter the store. Follow the on-screen steps, which include providing an email address, password and username; then enter the PlayStation Store.

    • 3

Verify you're in the game section (not the video section). If you're not, select "Game" on the top of the screen.

    • 4

Select your game, the location of which may vary depending on what you want to download. For example, arcade games are under "PSN games," while full games are under "PS3 games."

    • 5

Select "Purchase," followed by "Download." The store will automatically deduct funds from your PSN "wallet" or charge a stored credit card; the console will then automatically download and install the game. If you have neither a wallet nor a credit card on file, you'll be prompted to add a credit card to complete the purchase.
