How to Fix a PS3 Controller Game That Freezes

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) has an operating system that functions in much the same way as a computer. A software glitch can cause the controller operating the game to lock up, or "freeze" the console. You can access a hidden menu in the PS3's operating system that will resolve the problem so that the game will again play normally. Other than the game controller, nothing is needed in order to access the hidden menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Push down on the rocker switch at the back of the PS3. Wait for the red light on the front of the PS3 to dim. Push up on the rocker switch. Let 10 seconds pass before continuing.

    • 2

Insert the mini-USB connector at one end of a mini-USB cable into the USB connection on the front edge of the PS23 controller.

    • 3

Press and hold down the pressure-sensitive power button on the ledge at the top right corner. Let three beeps sound before removing your finger from the button. Let one second pass before pressing down on the power button again. Remove your finger after two beeps and a double-beep have been heard.
