Turn on the PS3. Select "Settings," "System Settings," "Format Utility."
Choose "Format Hard Disk" and then "Yes." Pick "Custom," then "Allot 10GB to the OtherOS," "Quick Format" and finally "Yes."
Wait a few seconds for the format to complete and then press "X" to restart the console.
Put the Yellow Dog Linux 6.1 disc into the Blu-ray player.
Select "Settings," "System Settings" and then "Install OtherOS."
Press "Start" on your controller after the PlayStation finds the otheros.bld file.
Reboot the PS3 after the installation is complete.
Choose "Settings," "System Settings" and then "Default System." Push the "X" button on your controller, then pick "OtherOS" and finally select "Yes."
Enter "- install_ps3_1080p" if you have a 1080p high-definition television or "- install_ps3_1080i" if you have a 1080i high-definition television. Input these commands when you see the kboot: command.
Select "Next" when the Linux welcome screen appears and then choose the language you speak from the list. Pick the keyboard layout that you want and select "Next."
Select "Yes" after receiving the unreadable partition message. Choose the "Remove Linux Partitions on Selected Drives and Create Default Layout" option, then select "Next" followed by "Yes" twice.
Uncheck the "wlan0" option if your Internet connection is not wireless.
Choose the "wlan0" option and select "Edit" if your Internet connection is wireless. Uncheck the Enable IPv6 Support box. Input the name of your wireless network and the encryption key before choosing "OK."
Select "Forward" when the boot process is finished. Accept the license agreement; if you choose not to, the installation cannot continue. Choose "Forward" again.
Select a firewall from the options. Choose "Yes" since the PS3 needs you to override the firewall and then pick "Forward" twice.
Input the date and time and then choose "Forward" twice again. Select "Finish" and Linux Yellow Dog is installed on your PS3.
